Fagus sylvatica/European Beech bonsai that I collected around 10 years ago in 2015 from the local Chiltern Hills. The tree was then airlayered to reduce the height of the rootball and allow it to be planted into an exquisite Tom Benda bonsai pot. The pot itself is a rarity and of considerable value. Tom has seen the tree and pot combination a couple of times and I believe it meets his approval!
The bonsai is a natural multi-trunk and is possibly over 100 years or more. Leaf size is reduced and the tertiary branches are now very fine. The tree has a little wire on it only, the branches are probably set but the wire is not cutting in so I have left it.
The tree is in my opinion ready for showing at a high level.
One consideration that should be taken into account by the future owner is that there is no nebari at the front of the tree; the airlayering only produced surface roots at the back. I don't believe that this is a major fault but it's something potential buyers will want to know.
This is a very reluctant sale having collected the tree myself and a decade of development, but unfortunately I have run out of room in my garden and need to clear some space.
It has featured a number of times on social media over the years, as well as Bonsai Esprit magazine but has yet to be displayed at a show.
