Acer palmatum/Japanese Maple bonsai Butterfly. Grown by the previous owner over many years, the tree has a good age demonstrated by the maturing bark. Note, it appears to have a tiny (1mm) piece of plastic, probably the label, embedded in the trunk. I have removed nearly all of it, the rest will grow over in the coming year or two.

Butterfly is a variety rarely seen as bonsai. It has green leaves edged with silvery-white and light pink margins. In summer, it has green and cream leaves, before turning a vivid magenta-red in autumn

The soil in which the maple grows has been changed over the past 3 years that it has been in my garden.

No wire marks and short internodes. The tree can be wired to get the best out of it.
